While I may have moved west to escape the brutal winters, I absolutely love visiting and exploring the beautiful city of Chicago covered with white flakes and twinkling Christmas tree lights. Nothing makes my heart happier. Every year I go home for the holidays and make it point to drop by Chicago and take in all of its beauty.
With only a few weeks left until Christmas, I wanted to share my top 5 favorite things to do around Chicago to get into the holiday spirit.
Contents
One // Go ice-skating in Millennium Park
McCormick Tribune Ice Skating Rink offers free skating. You can bring your own skates or rent them for $12. It’s open Monday – Thursday and Friday – Sunday noon – 8 pm. It is right next to The Bean and so fun to do during the day before it gets chilly.
Two // Window Shop on State Street
Get into the holiday season by checking out some of your favorites shops and looking at the window displays. I always love finishing up my shopping before the crowds get too crazy.
Three // Cozy up in your hotel room
Sometimes it just gets too chilly in the winter and you want to snuggle up and read a book…or drink champagne. My sister and I stayed at LondonHouse and sipped champagne in our room before dinner. The views from the LH Rooftop are also a must. It’s my favorite hotel to stay in Chicago.
Four // Lincoln Park Zoo Lights
I love the twinkling lights around Christmas. The Zoo has the most beautiful display and tickets are only $15, $12 if you’re a member!
Five // Horse Drawn Carriage Rides
I did this a few years ago and absolutely loved it. It’s so romantic. They give you a blanket and hot chocolate for your ride and you get to cozy up with your SO while people watching and seeing all of the holiday lights and decorations.
There is so much to do in Chicago during the winter time, I could go on and on.
Chicago friends – what are your favorites? Did I forget any? xx
