Last weekend CJ and I took a cooking class at Sur la Table. We took the Fried Chicken 101 class, but in the past we’ve done A Taste of Tuscany with braised pork chops, and Spanish Paella. This was our 3rd cooking class at Sur la Table and it’s always such a fun experience. The groups are really small, about 10 people, so it’s really interactive and intimate which I love.
I was pretty intimidated to take the Paella class since I had never cooked with seafood like Mussels and Clams. And cooking most meats really freaks me out – I don’t eat a lot of meat so cooking it and knowing when it’s done is always a concern. Now that I’ve taken theses classes, I feel so much more confident in the kitchen and experimenting with foods that once seemed impossible.
If you’re looking for fun date night ideas definitely look into taking a cooking class – some of my favorites on the schedule for March are: Night Out: Dumplings 101, Square Pizza Workshop, and Vietnamese Kitchen Techniques. I want to book them all!
If cooking classes aren’t your thing, but you’re looking for some other date night ideas, I’ve got you covered!
- Check out a Museum. There are a few museums that I really love, like the Museo Frida Kahlo in Mexico City or the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. I really love museums that evoke emotion. But there are also some amazing Museums around San Francisco that CJ and I checked out like SF Moma, The Exploritorium, and California Academy of Sciences. Both The Exploratorium and California Academy of Sciences show different exhibits and have nightlife every Thursday from 6pm-1om that includes snacks and alcohol.
- Go on a hike! Being outdoors and being active together is always a good thing! One of my favorite hikes that we’ve done has been Alamere Falls in Bolinas. It was actually the first hike I ever did that had a waterfall and I was so excited to get to the end to see it!
- Binge a show together. Sometimes you just both want to be lazy and that is totally OK. It’s always nice to cuddle up on rainy days and start a new show together. Some of our favorites right now are Imposters, Master of None, The Resident, and watching old re-runs of Friends.
- Bake a pizza at home! Yes, more cooking! Clearly we love food. I feel like our relationship revolves around what meal we’re going to eat next. But one of our favorite things to cook together is definitely pizza, it’s so easy and always fun to make new creations and try a variety of different toppings.
- Take a DIY Class. I love learning new things and being hands-on. Workshop SF is on my favorite places around the city to learn and take classes. They have classes like Succulent & Moss Glass Jar Terrariums, Intro to Home brewing, Pickling with Beer and Whiskey, and soo many more. I’ve even taken a Jewelry making class here with my girlfriends.
- Go out to dinner with a twist! Some of my favorite date nights have been nights where we hop around to different restaurants ordering our favorite things. Cocktails at 15 Romolo, Chorizo and Mussles at Don Pistos, Garlic Noodles and Tuna Poke at Chubby Noodle, and end the night at Caffe Greco with some Gelato. You probably won’t be able to walk afterwards but it’ll be totally worth it. 😉
