Happy love day!! I wanted to share a post celebrating the meaning of Valentine’s Day and what love means to me. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our day to day that we forget to show the ones closest to us how much they mean. Adorable cards, heart shaped cookies and chocolate dipped strawberries make today extra special, but we shouldn’t forget about the other 364 days we have to really show our unconditional love.
I once read something that goes a little like this..They say love is blind. I disagree. Infatuation is blind, love is all-seeing and accepting. Infatuation is fragile and shatters when life is not perfect. Love is strong and strengthens with time.
This. THIS. is what love means to me.
Love is acceptance. Love is seeing someone’s flaws and imperfections and still choosing to love them. It’s acknowledgment that nobody is perfect and accepting someone for who they are. Love is comfort. It’s sharing your hopes and fears and recognizing insecurities in one another and still choosing to stand by each other through the worst of times. It’s knowing you can share your entire heart without fear of judgement. Love is a choice. It’s waking up every morning and choosing to love someone. Because that’s what love is, it’s a choice. There will be hard and challenging times, and you make a choice to stand by each other through the good and bad.
Love is one of the most beautiful gifts we experience in life, it teaches us more about ourselves than any other experience. It teaches us how to compromise and be empathetic. It teaches us to put others’ feelings before our own – to be selfless and patient. Love is built, it strengthens and deepens with time, it is not temporary or fleeting. I truly believe you have to fully love yourself before you can find love in someone else. Open your heart, be vulnerable, share your emotions and love without boundaries. You’ll know you’ve found love when you start to become the best version of yourself. When the one you’re with challenges you in ways you never thought possible. When it feels like you’ve found the puzzle piece you never knew was missing…that’s love.
