You guys! Can you believe today marks 9 months since I wrote this life update post?! It’s been so surreal, and I can’t believe how quickly these months passed. I’ve learned a lot during my time off but there’s also been moment’s that have really challenged me. I wanted to share some of the things I’ve learned in the past few months and a few things that I hope to accomplish in the months to come.
- Our bodies need more sleep than we think. I used to sleep 4-5 hours a night and now I sleep about 8-9 hours most nights, I feel so much more energized and healthy, and have noticed a huge difference in my attitude.
- Not everyone is going to understand your decision. We live in a society where busy is glamorized – where working from home means you’re lazy, and having any free time means you’re not as successful as the person that works till 11 pm every night. Let’s squash that. I feel more productive and inspired than I ever have in my life. There are days that are zen and there are more days that the hustle is so real and I work 14+ hours a day – neither working style is better. Life is all about balance.
- Finding a job that aligns with your passions is so important. I’ve been interviewing casually just to stay relevant and keep an eye out for that perfect role. I’ve said no to multiple offers at this point – something I’ve never done before, and something I was terrified to do. Stay true to yourself in every decision you make. And if you’re thinking about making a career change, make sure it’s one you can see yourself in long term.
- Nothing is that serious. I freak out occasionally..okay, more than occasionally. I think having this time has really shown me that nothing is really that serious. In the end, everything will be OK. I understand there are deadlines and pressure from bosses, but It’s really important to take a step back and not let your job consume you. You are so much more than your job.
- You don’t need as much money as you think. I have literally been spending about 4x less than what I used to spend on a monthly basis. At this rate, I could take off rest of the year… who knows, maybe I will! 😉 Whether you’re saving up for your wedding, house, or for that dream vacay – try to be more mindful about your spending habits – I bet you could save a little more than you think.
- There will be great days, and there will be really bad days. I have days I’m so productive and feel like I’m on the right path. Then I have days I convince myself I’m a complete failure and have no idea what I’m doing. Allow yourself to feel whatever you’re feeling, and know it’ll pass.
- It’s inspiring to work in creative locations. I love working from home – being able to stay in my workout clothes all day and talk to myself is amazing. But there’s something about being in a coffee shop with good vibes. I tend to be most productive and inspired on days that I get out of the house and mix things up. It just goes to show how little changes in our environment and surroundings really make a difference.
- Surround yourself with people who share your vision – some days feel really lonely, and it really helps to be surrounded by people that share similar passions as you and resonate with the stage of life you’re in.
- I really like being alone. Seriously. Being alone allows you time to be creative, find inspiration, think about how you’re feeling, and sit with your thoughts. Develop a relationship with yourself – it’s one of the most important relationships you’ll ever have.
Thanks for reading and following along.
I can’t wait to see what the next few months have in store.
